Let's Connect!  A New Way to Make Great Strides On Your Marketing
A "Walk the Talk" Consultation With Marcia Yudkin Gets Your Thinking Moving

Looking for feedback or advice on a marketing issue?  Conventionally, you'd meet with a consultant or coach by phone or in an office.  In my unconventional new consulting offering, we walk and talk it out, either on a paved pedestrian trail or an unpaved walking trail in a scenic park.

While "Walk the Talk" normally takes place in Western Massachusetts, from April 1 to 16, 2010, I've be available for walking consultations on Maui in Hawaii.

Why "Walk the Talk"?

I got the idea after reading the blog of a Seattle expert who offered half-hour consults at a café he frequents.  I liked his idea of a one-time get-to-know-you exchange of ideas, but I live in a rural area, and hanging out in cafés isn't my thing.  Instead, I love being active outdoors.  (View my short YouTube video if you haven't already.)  So how about a consultation while walking?

  • Walking is good for you.  In an hour, we walk close to three miles.  Imagine a consultation that not only provides advice but also gets you out in fresh air and makes you healthier!

  • Walking aids creativity.  Out of the usual business environment, you're more open to new ideas.  The annals of invention are full of innovations spawned while running, swimming or doing housework.  As we're physically moving, both you and I are more likely to get better insights.

  • Walking and talking outdoors refreshes the spirit.  We'll be walking in a relatively controlled setting with little or no traffic, and while sightseeing isn't the primary purpose of "Walk the Talk," you're sure to find the views of forests, backyards or farmland (depending on where we meet) uncommonly pleasant.

  • Being together in person is warmer, richer.  Instead of receiving help from a disembodied voice, you get body language and emotional reactions as we're walking together.  In today's rushed "everything Internet" world, expect our consultation to be a productive, enjoyable and connected change of pace.

What Can We Tackle in a "Walk the Talk" Session?

A "Walk the Talk" consultation is perfect for problem-solving, direction and advice.  It isn't appropriate for having me look at something that's written or for creating a detailed plan.

  • Want to pick my brain about a new idea?  I'll tell you frankly what I think, along with reasons and resources.

  • If you have a marketing problem, you'll get a handle on it, with recommended solutions.

  • If you feel stuck on a project, you'll either discover why or learn how to move ahead on it - or both.

Why This "Walk the Talk" Client Found the Session Worthwhile
"After I tried a number of the flashy marketing coaches out there, my
walking session with Marcia was a breath of fresh air in every way. We were truly 'in step' around solving my challenges, and I was amazed at how much ground we could cover by walking as we strategized. I also saw how intuitive Marcia was about my strengths and where I was vulnerable, and her feedback helped me on a very deep level.

"As a compulsive note-taker, I was nervous that I would not be able to absorb Marcia's feedback, but we addressed everything I hoped to in a relaxed way, and I was able to retain the details later on. Our walking route was beautiful and inspiring, and I have no doubt that it added to the high-quality plan that we created together.

"It was definitely worth driving nearly two hours each way to our meeting point.  Walking with Marcia got me exactly where I wanted and needed to get to, quickly and in ways that I trust completely. Thank you Marcia for the walk, the talk, and for getting me to the other side." - Lisa Claudia Briggs, LICSW, IntuitiveBody.com, Helping Women Lighten Up: The Remedy For Out-of-Control Eating

Do Come from Out of Town!

I live 15 miles west of Northampton, Massachusetts, acclaimed as the #1 small town in America for the arts and a wonderful destination for a family vacation.  We can rendezvous there and walk the Norwottuck Rail Trail across the Connecticut River and alongside Hadley farmland, or walk a section of the same trail in Amherst, birthplace of poet Emily Dickinson.

If you have college-bound teenagers, bring them along to visit any of our five colleges: Smith College, Mount Holyoke, Amherst College, Hampshire or the University of Massachusetts.

Like sports?  The Basketball Hall of Fame is to our south.

Want a camping vacation?  Reserve a site at the D.A.R. State Forest, and we'll walk one of the trails there.  You can swim, fish and hike there, and if you're lucky, you might see a critter like the one to the right.

Love culture?  I'm also just a bit east of the Berkshires, with Tanglewood, where the Boston Symphony presents concerts all summer, the homes of Edith Wharton and Herman Melville, the Norman Rockwell Museum and many other attractions.

"Walk the Talk" Ground Rules & Procedures

If you have questions, they might be answered in the following explanation of how the program works.

  1. One to one: Just one "Walk the Talk" consultation per person, for one hour, and only one person per consultation.  No pets.  You agree to turn off or ignore your cell phone during our hour.

  2. Pace: I walk 2.5 to 3 miles per hour, and normally we walk on level or gently sloping ground.  This is not race walking or strenuous hiking!  I'll select our walking route after taking into account where you live or are staying, your preferences and your fitness level.

  3. Notes: At the end of our walk, I'll prompt you for what you learned and your next steps so you can write them down.  So don't worry about how to take detailed notes.  With my help, you'll have a record of what you need to remember.

  4. Payment: The fee of $200 is payable by credit card at the time you reserve your "Walk the Talk" time unless we agree on other arrangements.  (My usual rate is $350/hour.)  If you cancel more than 48 hours before the appointment, you receive a complete refund.

  5. Weather: Prior to our appointment, we'll exchange contact information so we can stay in touch about last-minute weather issues. If there's thunder or rain, we'll reschedule. If we've already rescheduled once and the weather is bad for our second try, we'll meet indoors at a coffee shop for our session instead of walking.

  6. Clothing: Please dress for comfort, not looks, and bring along water and a hat if it's sunny.  Wear sneakers or hiking shoes.

  7. Risk: You agree that meeting outdoors while walking carries risks, and you agree that any injury, loss or other harm that occurs to you during our consultation is your responsibility.

  8. Other: Everything we discuss is confidential unless we both agree otherwise.

With the end of summer, I'm no longer listing dates on this page, but you can still request a Thursday or Friday meeting and I'll try to accommodate you.  Request a Walk the Talk consultation.

Thank you for reading about my little experiment, and I hope to walk the path of progress with you!
